Catalytic decomposition of biogas to produce hydrogen rich fuels for SI engines and valuable nanocarbons

چکیده
Catalytic Decomposition of Biogas (CDB), producing simultaneously syngases (SG), with high hydrogen contents, for spark ignition (SI) engines and bio-carbon nanofibers (BCNFs) to be further used as precursor of synthetic graphite, is presented as an alternative to the usual direct combustion. Synthetic biogas mixtures were decomposed in the presence of a Ni catalyst at different temperatures and the SG thus produced were further tested as fuel in a specifically designed SI engine, whereas the BCNFs were subjected to heat treatment to graphitize. The influence of CDB process conditions on product yields and properties, the effect of SG composition/quality in SI engine performance and emissions, as compared with the use of raw biogas and the influence

Fuels With a High Enthalpy of Evaporation in Si Engine
The increasing use of fuels derived from oil, deepens concern about the fact that non-fossil fuels have to be considered as the fuels of the future. Among the alternatives, hydrogen produced from the abundant sources of water, seems to be one of the best, but it suffers drawbacks with regard to combustion, storage and transportation. The other alternatives are ammonia, produced from unlimited s...
متن کاملExperimental Evaluation of SI Engine Operation Supplemented by Hydrogen Rich Gas from a Compact Plasma Boosted Reformer
It is well known that hydrogen addition to spark-ignited (SI) engines can reduce exhaust emissions and increase efficiency. Micro plasmatron fuel converters can be used for onboard generation of hydrogen-rich gas by partial oxidation of a wide range of fuels. These plasma boosted microreformers are compact, rugged, and provide rapid response. With hydrogen supplement to the main fuel, SI engine...
متن کاملA review of biogas production methods from wastes and sewage and the explanation of its process
Thousands of tons of urban solid waste and human and animal waste in cities and villages of Iran have endangered the health of the environment and increased the greenhouse gases. On the other hand, the increasing trend of energy consumption has caused energy crisis phenomena in the world. Moreover, the increasing consumption of energy from fossil fuels has caused emissions from these fuels. Hen...
متن کاملHydrogen and Ethanol as Potential Alternative Fuels Compared to Gasoline under Improved Exhaust Gas Recirculation
In the present study, a computational fluid dynamics (CFD) method have been utilized to investigate the effects of exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) and initial charge pressure by means of using a supercharger on the emissions and performance of a SI engine. This engine is fueled separately by gasoline and two potential alternative fuels, hydrogen and ethanol. The results of simulation are compar...
